Love for Madeenah

A sister sent me this and I thought I’d share it with you guys.

Tell a lie!

It was reported by Ibn Abee Shaybah in his Musannaf and ‘Abdurazzaq and others that during the reign of ‘Umar bin Khattab a lady was asked by her husband, by Allah I ask you, do you love me? And she replied, if you ask me by Allah then no I do not love you.

The husband went to ‘Umar and informed him of this incident, and ‘Umar sent to the lady, asking her if she really had said that? She replied:

Leader of the Faithful! He asked me by Allah, should I have lied to him?!

Whereupon ‘Umar replied:

Yes! For verily every household is not built upon love, rather many are built upon Islaam and Ihsaan.

For sisters eyes only!

In our times seeking knowledge seems to have become something only for men, women’s chores involve cooking food and producing children.

This has led to the frustration of many teenage girls, specially in the west. They might have great ambitions in seeking knowledge and teaching it to others, and it is mainly for these sisters I decided to post this. Read more

Wiping the socks in Wudhu

As with regards to the wiping then all the scholars of Fiqh are in agreement that it is allowed for a person to wipe the leather socks, but they differed about the wiping of any other type of sock. Read more

Want to study Islaam?

Read the english bit.

No, I did not edit this picture through the computer to make it look funny, believe it or not but this is how me and another brother came across this sign outside the Prophet’s Masjid.

The arabic makes sense and so does the urdu my friend told me, but the english is incomprohensive to say the least. At first it was just a laugh but the more I thought of it the more sad I became.

As muslims we are supposed to set an example for the rest of mankind, being at the forefront with regards to everything, be it science, maths, even language! But then again this sign inspired me to share with you some good news.

This sign is a reflection on the big need this country (Saudi Arabia) has for people who are fluent in english, not just native speakers of the language.

And the job opportunities here are many, I personally know a couple who came from England both wife and husband found job in Riyadh and their monthly salary combine almost reached fifty thousand riyals, that is about ten thousand pounds a month. And mind you, this is with rent excluded and you are provided with a car and did I mention it is tax-free?

I know what you might be thinking, ok but how do I get this chance? Well it is pretty easy to be honest, all you would need is a basic certificate in teaching english, a so-called TEFL or CELTA, these courses cost a little bit of money, but once a person finishes (within a few months) he or she is pretty much set to go.

The great thing about this is that it opens up the opportunity for you to study Islaam here in Saudi Arabia or maybe even make hijrah here, you get to sit with the scholars and there are evening classes available at universities here for men and once inside the country sisters will find numerous of institutes to learn arabic and the deen in general.

The only reason I am posting this is practising upon the hadith of the Prophet:

None of you has [fully] believed until he loves for his brother that which he loves for himself.

So look into this option brothers and sisters, it seems to be perfect solution for many people and it’s worth a try.

Attention Students of the Qur'aan!

This was translated from arabic into english by Sister Amina, also known as Bint Abee. May Allah reward her for her efforts. This is a very good read for people who are serious about memorizing but dont know where or how to start.

Hope you all benefit inshAllah, it is a bit long but then again it’s a whole book so read it in chunks. Read more

Shaykh 'Abdul Muhsin al-Qaasim (Imaam of the Prophets Masjid)

So I started these classes with Shaykh Abdul Muhsin al-Qaasim one of the Imaams of the Prophets Masjid.

Those of you who know him will know him for his incredibly strong hifdh of the Qur’aan and his excellent tajweed.

Well anyways I am memorizing mutun, which is the plural of matn basically classical islamic texts dealing with different fields, some are in tawheed others in tajweed whilst a few are in fiqh etc.

It is pretty easy and straight forward, what I like the most is the fact that the Shaykh himself wrote a small book about how to go about memorizing things, wether it be poetry or just normal text. Read more

Hifdh

Ibn al-Jawzi said:

al-Hasan, meaning ibn Abee Bakr an-Naysaabuuri, told us a story of a Faqeeh [i.e knowledgable person] who used to repeat his lesson many times whereupon a very old lady who happened to be in that same house said to  the man, by Allah even I have memorised it by now! [meaning that the man had repeated it so many times] So the man said to her recite it to me, and so she did. After a few days the man came back to the lady and said old lady! Recite to me that lesson [again], she replied to him, I did not memorize it. The man said:

I repeat the lesson [over and over again] so that I am not afflicted with that which afflicted you.

[Mutun Taalib al-'Ilm by Shaykh 'Abdul Muhsin al-Qaasim]

Moral of the story: Revision is a must for anything you learn, especially that which you memorize!

al-Qaza'

This is something many young brothers fall into, trying to be fashionable but intruth it is forbidden.

Reported on the authority of ‘Abdullaah bin ‘Umar that he said: The Messenger of Allah forbade the practise of al-Qaza’.

The people asked and what is al-Qaza’? He replied, it is to shave part of the boys head and leave the other part. [Ibn Majah]

Our Shaykh ‘Abdul Muhsin al-’Abbad, the Muhaddith of Madeenah was asked about cutting your hair in degrees without shaving any part wherein he replied:

No doubt this resembles al-Qaza’ even if it might not be it excatly, it is best to leave that. Either cut your hair evenly or leave it.

If a person sneezes and does not praise Allah, do we remind him? [to praise Allah]

Shaykh ibn 'Uthaymeen - may Allah have mercy upon him - said:

If a person sneezes and does not praise Allah, do not say to him 'yarhamakAllah' [may Allah have mercy upon you] as a punishment for him because he didnt say alhamdulilah, meaning the fact that he left off praising Allah it caused him to be denied this du'aa of mercy. But then [the question might arise] do we remind such a person [to praise Allah]?

The answer: It is possible that the person did not say alhamdulilah out of disrespect [towards Allah] or it is also possible that the person left it due to forgetfullness. So if it is due to the latter [i.e out of forgetfullness] then such a person is to be reminded but if it is due to the fact that this person is being disrespectful then he is not to be reminded. However, how does one know wether the person in question left it [praising Allah] due to forgetfullness or out of disrespect? Understanding the hadith on its apparent meaning [the hadith wherein which the Prophet mentions]

...and [he] praises Allah...

[So what can be understood from this is] If the person does not praise Allah do not say may Allah have mercy upon you similarly do not remind him [of that].

Passing away in Ramadhaan

Question: The Prophet said;
When Ramadhaan arrives the doors of Paradise are flung open and the doors of Hellfire are slammed shut.
Does this mean that one who dies in Ramadhaan enters Paradise without questioning? Answer: The situation is not as such. Rather, what this means is the doors of Paradise are flung open as an inspiration to the Muslims to make easy their entry (to Paradise). And the doors of Hellfire are shut to prevent the Believers from sins such that they do not enter (through) these doors. And this does not mean that one who dies in Ramadhaan enters Paradise without questioning, rather those who shall enter Paradise without questioning are those whom the Messenger has described in his statement;
They are the ones who do not steal and do not cauterise and are not pessimistic and in their Lord they put their trust.
