Pick one!

Shaykh ibn ’Uthaymeen was asked the following question.

Which one is more superior (in terms of reward) the person giving the Athaan or the Imaam leading the people in Salah?

The Shaykh answered:

Giving the athaan is superior to leading the prayer since the person giving the athaan is raising his voice proclaiming the greatness of Allaah whilst bearing witness to the prophethood of the Prophet.

Aswell as calling the people towards success and prayer five times a day.

And there is no tree nor stone that hears his voice except that it will give testimony for him on the day of judgement.

Are you as quick as ibn 'Uyaynah?

Sufyaan ibn ‘Uyaynah said:

My father used to work as a money exchanger in al-Koofah and came under debt so he took us to Makkah whereupon I went to the Masjid when suddenly I saw ‘Amr bin Deenaar, and he narrated to me eight hadiths.

I held his donkey whilst he went inside the masjid and prayed, when he came back out I repeated the hadiths to him.

He then said:

BaarakAllaah feek (to me).

Note: The hadith he learnt on the spot where obviously including the isnaad. Notice that he did not waste anytime.

Who is better, Prophet Muhammad or Prophet Yunus?

The Prophet mentioned in a saheeh hadith:

…Whoever says, I am better than (Prophet) Yunus ibn Matta has lied. [Ibn Maajah]

Our noble Shaykh of Madeenah ’Abdul Muhsin al-’Abbaad said explaining this:

What is known is that the Prophet is the best of creation and the scholars explain this hadith in different ways. Some say the word “I” does not mean the Prophet himself, but rather any other slave, (meaning if a muslim was to say I am better than Yunus) this is because a person might read the story of Yunus and think bad of him (which is not  allowed).

Another explanation is that this was said by the Prophet before he  truly knew his high-ranking, or that it is out of humbleness and to defend his fellow Prophet.

Is it really a mercy?

Some people often qoute the hadith of the Prophet wherein which he says, the differences within my Ummah is a mercy. However this hadith is not correct.

Shaykh ibn ‘Uthaymeen was asked this question and this is the reply he gave:

This is wrong (ie if they mean that the opposite is true, meaning unity is a punishment), because ikhtilaaf is not a mercy and this is due to Allahs statement

وَلاَ يَزَالُونَ مُخْتَلِفِينَ إِلاَّ مَن رَّحِمَ رَبُّكَ

And they will never seize to differ except those whom Allah has mercy upon.

So this shows the weakness in the mentioned hadith. However those who differ and are Mujtahideen (well rooted in knowledge) then they will aquire mercy (from Allah).

al-Qaza'

This is something many young brothers fall into, trying to be fashionable but intruth it is forbidden.

Reported on the authority of 'Abdullaah bin 'Umar that he said: The Messenger of Allah forbade the practise of al-Qaza'.

The people asked and what is al-Qaza'? He replied, it is to shave part of the boys head and leave the other part. [Ibn Majah]

Our Shaykh 'Abdul Muhsin al-'Abbad, the Muhaddith of Madeenah was asked about cutting your hair in degrees without shaving any part wherein he replied:

No doubt this resembles al-Qaza' even if it might not be it excatly, it is best to leave that. Either cut your hair evenly or leave it.

Reading Surah Faatiha twice?

Question: What is the ruling for the person who repeats the recitation of Surah Faatiha? Meaning when he finishes it once, he recites it once again? Answer: It is not allowed to knowingly repeat Surah Faatiha, since this has not be reported from the Prophet.  And he said;

Whoever introduces anything new into our affair (i.e. Islaam) that which is not from it, then it will be rejected. [Bukhaaree]

However the Salaah is still correct, and such a person should be given sincere advice (to stop it) so that he does not repeat this practise. [Fataawa al-Lajnah ad-Daa-imah 276/8]
