Mixed emotions.

Today is a happy day as well as a sad day (in some ways). It is happy in the sense that tomorrow I will be returning to the city of our beloved Prophet after having been on a summer holiday, however this means I will have to leave my family and dear mother not to mention the few friends I have, behind.

I am sad and excited at the same time, I can’t wait to be back in Madeenah! But saying goodbye is never easy. I do realise how fortune I am, and that many people would (perhaps) cut their little toes off just to be in my shoes (I dont have big feet, it’s just a figure of speech lol) but alhamdulilah no doubt, as soon as you emerge yourself in the knowledge again, you tend to forget your family (in a good way) and you might only get home sick once or twice the entire year.

A brother asked me the other day, what do you miss the most about Madeenah? I didn’t really have to think much before I said, the company of the pious and knowledgeable, because it has a very big effect on you. Whether it be in the Prophet’s Masjid or the University itself, you always have people who love Islaam and are more knowledgeable than yourself and just being in their company brightens up your day a lot.

So if the da’wah slows down somewhat, then please keep in mind I am back studying and might get busy from time to time. I am sure brothers and sisters will understand.

I leave you with some wise words the famous Companion Salmaan al-Faarisi once said:

It is not the Land that makes a person pious, rather it is his deeds that do so.

Recitation during the Friday prayer

This is a very common thing amongst khateebs who lead the Friday prayers, and it is not from the Sunnah.

Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd said:

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم always did three things in his recitation in Jumu’ah prayer: he recited al-Jumu’ah (62) and al-Munaafiqoon (63), or al-Jumu’ah and al-Ghaashiyah (88), or al-A’la (87) and al-Ghaashiyah.

Nowadays it has become common for some of them to ignore that which is prescribed and recite whatever verses the imam sees fit, or soorahs of the Qur’aan that are appropriate to the subject of the khutbah.

This striving to recite something that was appropriate to the topic of the khutbah was not narrated from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and was not known among the early generations of this ummah, so adhering to that is an innovation. Similarly, deliberately ignoring what is prescribed and doing something else implies that one believes that there is something missing in what is prescribed and it should be made up, and that may cause confusion to ordinary Muslims. And Allaah knows best.

Tasheeh al-Du’aa’ (p. 319).

Would you have done the same?

al-Haafidh as-Sakhaawee – may Allaah have mercy upon him- said in Fat-h al-Mugheeth bi sharh alfiyyat al-hadeeth:

Aboo Ayyoob Suleymaan bin Daawood ash-Shaathakooni was from amongst the biggest Huffaadh (one who memorizes hadeeth), it was narrated about him in a dream a man saw after Aboo Ayyoob had passed away. The man saw Aboo Ayyoob in his dream and said to him, how did Allaah treat (reward) you? Whereupon he replied, He forgave me, so it was said, on what grounds? (i.e. what is it you did to deserve forgiveness)

Aboo Ayyoob said, I was on the road towards Asbahaan one day, when suddenly rain overtook me. I had with me some books (of knowledge) but I could not find any shelter of any sort! So I covered the books with my body (preventing the rain to fall on them) until I woke up in the morning and the rain had stopped, because of this, Allaah forgave me my sins.

We understand Tawheed!

This topic can not be stressed enough even though some people say we understand Tawheed! We are muslims! Not Mushriks, teach us other stuff that will gain us more benefit instead of adressing us as non muslims talking about Tawheed day in and day out! Shaykh Saaleh aale-Shaykh mentions in his explanation of kashf ash-Shubuhaat, the following story:

Shaykh-ul-Islam Muhammad ibn Abdul-Wahhaab was with his students and after having completed the study of his book 'Kitab at-Tawheed', he wished to start again the study of this book for the 3rd or 4th time.

His students said to him : "O Shaykh, we wish to study another book, a book of fiqh or hadith".

The Shaykh replied: "Why (do you wish to study another book)?".

His students: "We have in fact understood Tawheed, we want to study another science".

The Shaykh: "Wait, I shall give some thought to this".

A few days later, the shaykh came to the lesson with a troubled face. His students asked him the reason for it.

The shaykh explained that he'd come across something which angered him. His students asked what it was.

The Shaykh: "It has been related to me that the inhabitants of a house have sacrificed a rooster (for a Jinn) in front of their door. I have sent someone to confirm this affair".

Some time later, his students asked him about the affair that he had mentioned.

The Shaykh replied: "In fact, the inhabitants of this house did not sacrifice for other than Allaah, but it was someone who fornicated with his mother".

Shocked, his students exclaimed:"We seek refuge with Allaah! He fornicated with his mother? We seek refuge with Allaah! He fornicated with his mother...".

After mentioning this story, Shaykh Saleeh explained that Shaykh-ul-Islam told this story to show them that the statement "We understand Tawheed" is ignorance and is one of the greatest tricks of the Shaytaan.

Reading Surah Faatiha twice?

Question: What is the ruling for the person who repeats the recitation of Surah Faatiha? Meaning when he finishes it once, he recites it once again? Answer: It is not allowed to knowingly repeat Surah Faatiha, since this has not be reported from the Prophet.  And he said;

Whoever introduces anything new into our affair (i.e. Islaam) that which is not from it, then it will be rejected. [Bukhaaree]

However the Salaah is still correct, and such a person should be given sincere advice (to stop it) so that he does not repeat this practise. [Fataawa al-Lajnah ad-Daa-imah 276/8]
