The Ka’bah is not just a square building, but has a very interesting and long history to it. Who actually built the Ka’bah anyway?
Well the scholars differ amongst each other, yes Allah mentions Ibraheem and his son raising the foundations of the Holy building but that means that there was something there to raise in the first place?
Imaam Tabari writes in his famous tafseer:
The scholars of Tafseer are in dispute about the foundation Ibraheem and Isma’eel built, did they actually build it from scratch? Or did they only raise a foundation that already was there?
A group (of scholars) said the foundation was actually built by Prophet Aadam following the command of Allah. And Ibraheem only rebuilt it.
And Imaam Qurtubi writes:
And the scholars differed amongst themselves who built the Ka’bah first? A group of them said the Angels, after Allah rebuked them at the creation of Prophet Aadam.
