Da'wah

Something you might notice is the fact that pious people never let an opportunity to call towards Allah pass by. One only has to read the Qur’aan to hear about how Yusuf alayhi salam called towards tawheed and Islaam whilst being in prison.

And similarly as muslims we should make the most of every chance we get and call towards Allah, even if its on the bus or at univeristy etc.

And this is Maalik bin Dinaar from the salaf who sees the opportunity to call towards Allah and he does not hesitate even one second.

It is said that a burgler entered the Imaams house but he didn’t find anything to steal. So Maalik [saw the burgler] and called him towards him and said, you did not find anything with regards to the dunyah, how about something from the aakhirah? So the burgler replied yes [I am interested].

So the Imaam instructed him to make wudhu and pray two units of prayer so he did that. Then he sat down [for awhile] and then he went to the masjid. So the Imaam was asked [when people saw this man with him] Who is this person? He replied, he came to rob but we robbed him!

    salaamu alaikum! JazakumAllahu Khair for this!! i think i really needed something like this!! May Allah (swt) increase ur knowledge, Aameen!!

    ^^Allahumma Aameen:)

    Thats true! jazakallah khayr for sharing.

    Just want to say that some of us don’t have enough knowledge to go around and give dawah so it’s best for us not go ahead and talk about something which we don’t have enough knowledge about but of course if we have knowledge about something then it’s our duty to go ahead and give dawah.

    Akhi, could you give us some dawah techniques? For those like me who are weak in faith and don’t know how to approach people?

    • khaldun says:

      If a person has even basic knowledge he can call towards that. If you know that Salah is a must in Islaam and you see your brother or sister not praying then you tell them. One does not have to become an ‘Aalim in order for them to call towards Allah. Yet at the same time a complete Jaahil should not call towards Allah either.

      ???? ??????? ???????? ??????? ????? ?????? ????? ????????? ?????? ?????? ??????????? ??????????? ?????? ????? ?????? ???? ??????????????
      Say [O Prophet]: “This is my way: I am calling [you all] unto God upon firm knowledge- I and they who follow me.” And [say:] “Glory be to Allah; and I am not one of those who ascribe divinity to aught beside Him!”

      As for techniques then I would say if a person is sincere then Allah will aide him. Also making the most of every opportunity is important. When calling towards Allah it is important to know the state of the person you are calling. When you talk to your parents and when you talk to your friends there is a big difference. If addressing elders show the uppermost respect even if they might be misguided. Make dua for them in secret, take their hand and advice them away from the public. Befriend them before advicing. Read about the Prophets and how they used to call their people towards Allah. What did they start of teaching people? Was it about how the jews own the whole world or was it about tawheed? Get your base right. al-aham qabla al-muhim

Hajj and Istighfaar

Shaykh Abdu-Razzaq bin Abdul-Muhsin al-'Abbaad writes concerning the hajj in his book Min Madrasatu-l-Hajj

It is often that Allah commands for istighfaar, especially at the end of acts of obedience and upon completion of worship.

Allah the Most High says:

ثُمَّ أَفِيضُواْ مِنْ حَيْثُ أَفَاضَ النَّاسُ وَاسْتَغْفِرُواْ اللّهَ إِنَّ اللّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

and surge onward together with the multitude of all the other people who surge onward, and ask God to forgive you your sins: for, verily, God is much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace.

And the surge mentioned in the verse here is in reference to the return towards Mina where the Hujjaj stay during the days of hajj. And Allah ordered them to do istighfaar so that it patches up any mistakes or short comings that might have occured.

Similarly it was from the practise of the Prophet to end his good deeds with istighfaar. It is authentically narrated in Saheeh Muslim  that the Prophet used to say upon finishing salah, astaghfirullah three times. Even at the end of the night prayers he used to end it with istighfaar.

Allah the Most High said:

وَالْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَ بِالأَسْحَارِ

and [those who] pray for forgiveness in the early morning.

And he used to conclude his sittings with istighfaar as has been authentically reported by Aboo Dawuud on the authority of Abee Burzah al-Aslamee that whenever the Prophet wanted to end a sitting he used to say:

SubhaanakAllahuma wa Bihamdika ash-Hadu an laa ilaaha illa ant astaghfiruka wa atuubu ilayk

The Prophet even ended his life with Istighfaar as has been narrated by Imaam Bukhaaree in his saheeh on the authority of 'Aishah. During his last days in this world whilst being in the care of his beloved wife 'Aishah she heared him repeating.

Allahuma ighfirlee warhamnee wa alhiqnee bi rafeeqil 'ala

O Allah forgive me and have mercy upon me and make me join the company of the noble ones!

Passing away in Ramadhaan

Question: The Prophet said;
When Ramadhaan arrives the doors of Paradise are flung open and the doors of Hellfire are slammed shut.
Does this mean that one who dies in Ramadhaan enters Paradise without questioning? Answer: The situation is not as such. Rather, what this means is the doors of Paradise are flung open as an inspiration to the Muslims to make easy their entry (to Paradise). And the doors of Hellfire are shut to prevent the Believers from sins such that they do not enter (through) these doors. And this does not mean that one who dies in Ramadhaan enters Paradise without questioning, rather those who shall enter Paradise without questioning are those whom the Messenger has described in his statement;
They are the ones who do not steal and do not cauterise and are not pessimistic and in their Lord they put their trust.
