Ibn al-Jawzi said:

al-Hasan, meaning ibn Abee Bakr an-Naysaabuuri, told us a story of a Faqeeh [i.e knowledgable person] who used to repeat his lesson many times whereupon a very old lady who happened to be in that same house said to  the man, by Allah even I have memorised it by now! [meaning that the man had repeated it so many times] So the man said to her recite it to me, and so she did. After a few days the man came back to the lady and said old lady! Recite to me that lesson [again], she replied to him, I did not memorize it. The man said:

I repeat the lesson [over and over again] so that I am not afflicted with that which afflicted you.

[Mutun Taalib al-'Ilm by Shaykh 'Abdul Muhsin al-Qaasim]

Moral of the story: Revision is a must for anything you learn, especially that which you memorize!

Who is better, Prophet Muhammad or Prophet Yunus?

The Prophet mentioned in a saheeh hadith:

...Whoever says, I am better than (Prophet) Yunus ibn Matta has lied. [Ibn Maajah]

Our noble Shaykh of Madeenah 'Abdul Muhsin al-'Abbaad said explaining this:

What is known is that the Prophet is the best of creation and the scholars explain this hadith in different ways. Some say the word "I" does not mean the Prophet himself, but rather any other slave, (meaning if a muslim was to say I am better than Yunus) this is because a person might read the story of Yunus and think bad of him (which is not  allowed).

Another explanation is that this was said by the Prophet before he  truly knew his high-ranking, or that it is out of humbleness and to defend his fellow Prophet.

Reading Surah Faatiha twice?

Question: What is the ruling for the person who repeats the recitation of Surah Faatiha? Meaning when he finishes it once, he recites it once again? Answer: It is not allowed to knowingly repeat Surah Faatiha, since this has not be reported from the Prophet.  And he said;

Whoever introduces anything new into our affair (i.e. Islaam) that which is not from it, then it will be rejected. [Bukhaaree]

However the Salaah is still correct, and such a person should be given sincere advice (to stop it) so that he does not repeat this practise. [Fataawa al-Lajnah ad-Daa-imah 276/8]
