How to get accepted into Madeenah Uni

Now there is no simple answer or way to this, as muslims we believe in the Qadr of Allah. If it is written for you it will happen and if not then do not be sad about it.

Disclaimer!  Please remember this is in no way a promise, even if you did implement these things it does not guarantee your acceptance.

1. Sincerity

Ask yourself, why do you want to go to Madeenah and study? Is it to become someone? To make a name for yourself? Most of you might say of course not, but then ask yourself, are you actively seeking knowledge where you are now? If not, what makes you think you will do so in Madeenah?

2. Du’aa from the Parents

This is very important, yet we see a lot of people wasting this opportunity. They might feel shy etc. Be kind to your parents and ask them to make du’aa for you, remind them constantly. The Prophet told us that the du’aa of the parent  is always accepted so make the most of it.

When I applied to the uni, my father took me to his father all the way in Somalia, now my grandfather is a bedouin about 90 years old, so when we came there my father entered my grandfathers little hut explaining to him that I wanted to go to the city of the Prophet and learn the Qur’aan and the Sunnah, afterwards I was called in and my grandfather made a lot of du’aa for me.

The point is, try to get du’aa from your parents, uncles, even righteous (living) people in general.

3. Know someone here

When applying, try to come here in person have all your papers ready, if possible try to get a senior student to go with you into the office and by senior I mean a doctor or the likes of it.

Be open and polite, try to get across how much you want this, inform them about the ignorance that is prevalent back home, basically pour your heart out within limits and do not lie or be too forceful.

4. Memorize the Qur’aan

Memorize the entire Qur’aan or as much of it as you can, it will really improve your chances. The haafidh of the Qur’aan is blessed in this world and the hereafter, the fact that you made time in your life and finished the book of Allah will show that you are a serious student and every muslim respects a haafidh when he meets one.

5. Keep trying

If you do not get in the first time you apply, keep applying, I personally know a few brothers who got accepted not the first time not even the second time but the third time they applied, so do not give up!

That’s it for now, but as a last point of advice, do not get your heart attached to much, meaning a lot of people apply every year and only a few people get accepted, make  your aim seeking knowledge whether it is in Madeenah or not, apply to other places aswell, keep your options open.

If you go for an interview do not get nervous, make du’aa and Allah will help you. When I applied for the uni I applied for the faculty of Qur’aan, I was so nervous because you had to be haafidh for this faculty and they actually test your Qur’aan but I had been ill for a while and hadn’t reviewed it properly.

So I sat there thinking to myself you will surely flunk now Aboo Thaabit! How can you revise the whole Qur’aan in two mins?! So I opened up my Qur’aan and it opened up on Surah al-An’aam I just started reading thinking to myself how silly is this?

Then the old man called me in and said to me, so you’re a haafidh, I cleared my throat and said Alhamdulilah I am, so he opened his Qur’aan and guess what? He tells me to read the exact same verses I just read!

  2. Assalaamu ‘alaykum,

    Akhee mashaaAllah nice post.

“…The point is, try to get du’aa from your parents, uncles, even righteous (living) people in general…”

That means ur gonna do du’aa for me right? mashaaAllaah…

Seriously, these few months gone have been so nervous… It’s like the “long awaited results” are finally coming…

May Allaah forgive me (and all of us) my (our) silly sins, and accept me into the uni for this year, ameen Allaahumma ameen…

JazaakAllaahu khairun for another beneficial post, keep up the hard work bro.

    Wassalaamu ‘alaykum,

    Akhookum

“…make your aim seeking knowledge whether it is in Madeenah or not, apply to other places as well, keep your options open.”

Subhannallah, this is so true. If you didn’t get accepted to whatever you wanted perhaps Allah had better plans for you. A suitable place for you to seek His religion. So be content with the Qadr of Allah, remain patience and never lose hope [i.e constant duaas]

    Jazakallah khayr,

Jazaak Allahu khayran. I find this advice very beneficial for all students, not just those brothers who are looking to get into Madinah.

  5. Umm Ammaarah says:

    Assalaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullah…

I agree with sister Amatullah…this is very beneficial advice to all students. Jazakallaahu khayral jazaa… On that note there are two questions that i hope you can help me with…

    1. From what i gather, i believe you must be in kulliyahtul quran. Alhamdulillah i have memorised a fair portion and am hoping to complete it in the not too distant future. I would like to know what specific studies are done in this kulliyah…in depth tafsir?? learning different qiraaat?? do you all do any courses in fiqh, hadith, tawheed etc??? I am aware that the mudeer said when they open the women’s wing, they would start with 3 faculties, one of them being quran. I pray that Allaah would help me to complete the quran by then and help me get entry into that kulliyah. I would just like to have a more detailed idea of what studies are done in it…

    2. My second question is regarding the procedure to join one of the cirles of Quran in Masjid Nabawi….I figure the procedures for the women must be similar to those for men…

    Jazakallahu Khayr wa barakallaahu feek…

Wa Alaykum As Salaam Wa Rahmatullah

      wa alaikum assalam warahamtullah

to answer your first question, I do not go to the faculty of Qur’aan anymore, I changed due to some personal reasons, I realised that when I go back to the west it is better for me and the people I will be going back to that I teach them Tawheed and Fiqh instead of different Qira’aats.

What alot of people fail to realise is that all the faculties are basically the same, it does not mean just because you enter the faculty of Qur’aan that you wont learn hadith or fiqh, it only means that your major is in Qur’aan (tafsir and Qir’aat) it will take up most of your time if not all, but yes you do learn all the other subjects in it.

My personal approach is that I will focuse on Tawheed since it is the most important thing to teach the people, as for the Qir’aat I read that at the Haram (Prophets masjid) to any of the teachers. You go up to a teacher and ask if you can read to him, if he has time he will say ok, and ask if you are hafid, if you say no he tells you go back and learn it, if you say yes he starts testing you if you fail he tells you go back and learn it. If you pass you read to him on a daily basis.

    ?????? ?????
Barakallahu Fiyk Akhi for this Benefitical Post, escpecially now that the List for 2010/2011 is out soon.

May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala Make our search for Knowledge sincere and May he accept all our Brothers who want to seek Our Ilm and escpecialy in Madeenah for specific reasons we might have.

As our Beloved Prophet May Allahs Peace and Blessing be upon him As-Sadiqul Masduq informed us that the Knowledge will be taken by the death of the Scholars.
Wallahi this is seen Today, where everyone is prioritising their Academic Studies and The Scholars are dying away. As Muslims we are supposed to have big ambitious, and one of the biggest ambitiouns is to take on the course to substitute the scholars by inheriting from them that which they inherited from the Prophet Sallahu Aleyhi Wa Sallam.

May Allah guide the Ummah of Muhammad to the right Path, to remove the love of this world from their Hearts and make Akhira their aim and to make every step their take sincerely for Allah SWT sake.

May Allah SWT make our seek for knowledge sincere for his sake and may he accept us into Madinah This Year Bithnihi Subhanahu Wata’ala.

One advice for the Brothers who are hoping to get accepted may allah SWT make that happen, Try to wake up the last third of the night and stand up for qiyaam and ask Allah SWT sincerely that he admits you into Madeenah this year Insha’Allah.

And as the brother indicated Allah SWT knows what is best for us so have True Reliance on Him.

There are many avenues opening up to learn about Islam, to seriously commit one’s self.

What exactly are we getting out of attending a university, majoring in a particular Islamic science, etc.?
What does it do for us as an individual (for those that have to travel leaving behind their family)?
Where does one go / what does one do from there (after graduating)?

there’s always some desire to subscribe to or be a part of something greater through which we can draw closer to Allah. but i realize i dont really know anything about Islamic universities.

    • khaldun says:

      That is a good question.

Travelling to seek knowledge has been done for ages, some people say the first instance is that of Prophet Muusa travelling to Khidr to benefit from him. Even until our day people travel to seek knowledge so that they might worship Allah more correctly.

The benefits of travelling to seek knowlegde are many, not only the benefits mentioned in the hadiths of the Prophet but also that fact that when a person sacrifice something in order to gain something then that thing becomes very dear to him. So if a person travels very far for one reason then that reason becomes very important to him. Also he might meet other people who share his views and will help him in seeking this knowledge.

Now this university was laid down by some of the big scholars of that time, may Allah reward them. And focusing on one part of knowledge is often easier and better so that the student might grasp it fully, just like how if a person studies medicine he chooses a special field and becomes good in it.

After you graduate there are many option, my personal view is that you should not make this your means of income, which sadly happens today. Teach the people free of charge for the sake of Allah and pick up another proffesion and make that your livelhood.

Your aim from studying is to seek closeness to Allah, do no think of this as, ok but what do I get back inreturn?

      Hope that helped abit.

  9. Assalaam o alaykum,

Akee, do u mind me posting this up on my blog? (And of course, sourced back here)

  13. Raza says:

    Assalamu ‘alaykum

Is there any age limitation when seeking to apply to a madeena university ?

I am a brother who came late into studying the deen, Alhamdulillah, but fell in love with the city, the people and the brothers in madeenah, so i do intend to one day study amongst the great scholars of this great city, insha’Allah …

    • khalduu1 says:

      wa alaikum assalam

there is an official age limit of 25 but they do accept people much older than that at times. And remember even if you dont get accepted, it is not the end of your journey in seeking knowledge. Start with memorizing the Qur’aan or as much of it as you can in your home town and then learn arabic slowly you’ll progress that way.

Lessons from the Encounter Between the Prophet Moosaa and al-Khadir

Part two

6) The permissibility of informing others about things that are part of human nature – such as fatigue, hunger or thirst – so long as it is truthful and is not done out of displeasure or annoyance. This is understood from Moosaa saying, “Truly, we have suffered much fatigue in this journey of ours.”

7) The recommendation that one’s attendant be clever, perceptive and intelligent, so as to carry out the instructions given to him.

8 ) The recommendation of one feeding his attendant from his own food, as well as the two of them eating together. The implication from Moosaa saying “bring us our lunch” is that they ate together, due to him using the word “our.”

9) Assistance is granted to someone according to his compliance with the command of Allaah, and one who fulfils the command receives assistance that no one else is granted. This is understood from Moosaa saying, “Truly, we have suffered much fatigue in this journey of ours,” which refers to the portion in which they went past the junction of the two seas. However, as for the portion prior to that, he did not complain of weariness from it despite its distance, because it was the intended journey that was undertaken.

As it relates to the latter portion, it may have only lasted part of a day, because they lost the fish when they took shelter at the rock. Thus, it appears that they spent the night there and moved onward the following day. Then, when lunch time came, Moosaa said to his attendant, “Bring us our lunch.” At that time, the attendant recalled that he forgot it at their desired destination.

10) The individual whom the two of them (i.e. Moosaa and his attendant) met was not a Prophet. Rather, he was a righteous servant and Allaah described him with the quality of being an ‘abd (worshipping servant) and recounted the favor of bestowing mercy and knowledge upon him. Allaah did not mention anything about him being a Messenger nor a Prophet; had he been one, Allaah would have stated that just as He did for others.

As for his (i.e. al-Khadir) saying at the end of the narrative, “And I did not do them of my own accord,”7 it does not imply that he was a Prophet. Rather, it only refers to ilhaam and tahdeeth (forms of divine inspiration). Such is also the case with others who are not Prophets, as Allaah stated, “And We inspired the mother of Moosaa: ‘Suckle him (i.e. your child, Moosaa)’”, as well as “And your Lord inspired the bees, saying: ‘Take homes for yourselves in the mountains.’”

Reading Surah Faatiha twice?

Question: What is the ruling for the person who repeats the recitation of Surah Faatiha? Meaning when he finishes it once, he recites it once again? Answer: It is not allowed to knowingly repeat Surah Faatiha, since this has not be reported from the Prophet.  And he said;

Whoever introduces anything new into our affair (i.e. Islaam) that which is not from it, then it will be rejected. [Bukhaaree]

However the Salaah is still correct, and such a person should be given sincere advice (to stop it) so that he does not repeat this practise. [Fataawa al-Lajnah ad-Daa-imah 276/8]
