Question: Some people memorize the entire Qur’aan or parts of it, but after a while they forget it, is such a person sinful for forgetting the Qur’aan?
Shaikh Bin Baaz: The correct opinion is that such a person is not sinful, however what is required from that person is to make an honest effort so that he/she wont forget it. The Prophet of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said
Refresh this Qur’aan (i.e. revise it) for by Allaah it leaves (the hearts of men) quicker than camels leave their shackles.
But what is even more important than the recitation of the Qur’aan is acting according to it and pondering upon its meanings.

Jazakallaahu Khairan.
Someone told me that it’s a great sin to forget once you have memorized the Quran or a part of it.
People I met here in Malaysia, who claim to be of Shafi’ee madhhab, believe it is sinful. It’s interesting to know that there’s a different opinion regarding this issue.
