True Love?

In today’s world, a lot of young people are afflicted by a serious illness that is even more deadly than any virus or bacteria. It is an illness that affects the heart and will cause its death, if not treated.

This illness is none other than love before marriage, and it is with great sadness that a lot of youth fail to realize that in reality there is no such thing as “true” love before marriage, yes, there might be crushes, infatuations and the likes, but true love? No.

Some people might argue and say, how can you make such a bold statement? To that I reply, love is what creates happiness not sorrow, love is what gives you a peace of mind not worry and anguish but most importantly, love is that which brings you closer to Allaah the Most High, not that which will push you further away from Him and acquire His wrath.

Yet there are a few brothers and sisters, who truly love Allaah, only to find their hearts crippled by this disease, they have apparently fallen in “love” with the opposite gender (before  marriage) and can’t seem to stop thinking about them, they lose their appetite, their sleep and become neglectful of life as a whole.

These individuals sometimes regret falling in love and want a way out, they want a cure for this illness, but is there really a cure?

Listen to what Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim has to say:

“And the cure for this deadly illness (i.e. love before marriage) is for the person that is afflicted to realize that this love is only due to his/her own delusions and ignorance.

So upon such a person is to first and foremost strengthen their Tawheed and reliance upon Allaah, and secondly to increase in worship and busy themselves with it, so much so that they do not have any spare time letting their minds wander and think about their beloved.

And they should call upon Allaah to protect them and save them from this evil, just as Prophet Yusuf called upon Allaah and he was saved. And they should do as he did, be as he was, in terms of ikhlaas (sincerity) and remembering Allaah in abundance.

This is because if the heart is filled with ikhlaas for the sake of Allaah, there will be no space left for any unlawful love to be present, rather this only happens to a heart that is empty and has no ikhlaas whatsoever.

And let such people remind themselves that whatever Allaah has decreed for them is only in their own best interests, and when Allaah commands something it is never to cause harm or misery to His slaves.

And let them also remind themselves that their unlawful love does not benefit them, neither in this world or the hereafter! As for this world then they will be so preoccupied with their love that it will cripple them and will cause them to live in a fantasy world. And as for the hereafter then it will cause them to be preoccupied with the love of the creation instead of love for the Creator!

These people need to be reminded, that the one who is emerged in something will never see its ill effects, neither will the person who has never experienced such things. The only people who will be able to relate to them are those who have experienced the same thing but have been saved. Such people can look back and realize how evil it is.”

Women visiting graves

Ibn ‘Abbaas said:

The Messenger of Allaah cursed women who visit graves.

[Reported by Imaam Ahmad volume 1 page 229]

This hadith clearly shows us that it is forbidden for women to visit graves. And in reality this hadith shows that it is a grave sin since the curse of Allaah or His Messenger is only upon those who commit major sins.

[al-Qawl al-Mufeed by Shaikh Ibn 'Uthaymeen volume 1 page 428]

Aboo Thaabit: The reason why women are forbidden from visiting graves is due to their soft nature, and perhaps the overwhelming feelings of sorrow and loss will lead them to either utter words that should not be uttered or they might do actions which are forbidden. However women are allowed to pray the Janaazah prayer.

Reading Qur’aan during your period.

Is a woman allowed to read Qur’aan during her period?

The scholars have differed on this issue.

The majority say that she should not read Qur’aan. And this is the math-hab of Imaam Ahmad, whereas other scholars say she should indeed read Qur’aan since there is no authentic evidence showing it isn’t allowed. Also the recitation of the Qur’aan is in itself recommended.

However one should follow a middle path (due to her state of impurity) and recite the Qur’aan if there is a real need, like for an example if she is afraid she might forget it or she might be teaching it to others or just studying it, reading du’aas from it etc. If she does not need to read it then she should settle for general dhikr instead of the Qur’aan in order to be free from the dispute.

And this is the opinion that is closest to the truth, i.e. that she reads it only if there is a real need for it and not otherwise.

[Fat-h dhil Jalaali wa al-Ikraam by Shaikh Ibn Uthaymeen volume 1 page 593]

For sisters eyes only!

In our times seeking knowledge seems to have become something only for men, women’s chores involve cooking food and producing children.

This has led to the frustration of many teenage girls, specially in the west. They might have great ambitions in seeking knowledge and teaching it to others, and it is mainly for these sisters I decided to post this. Read more

Personal experiance at Hajj

To be honest I was very reluctant to write this due to a number of reasons. I do not think any words can ever do true justice to what hajj really is like, also this blog is not meant for me to talk about myself since I am a nobody [yet I have enough stalkers as it is]. But since I have been asked numerous times I thought it might be interesting for brothers and sisters to read about the Hajj of a student of knowledge. Living in Saudi Arabia makes hajj much easier and you get to make hajj almost every year. It is not that expensive, but since you need special papers to enter Makkah for hajj [and these papers are kinda expensive] most students take the backdoor. Meaning that you take a taxi and jump out just before the check point and then walk around the check point and then get back in the car afterwards. Now you would have thought this might be dangerous, but the funny thing is that the police officers help you and guide you. My first time I went the wrong way and walked straight into a police station and the police officer looked at me and said 'O brother this is not the right way, go back and cross the street or else you will get caught' I was amazed. Even this year the police officer in the car saw us and said 'Where are you heading?' yet he pointed us in the right direction. Alhamdulilah. Upon entering Makkah it was crowded as ever and you can not help it but to remember the verses: وَأَذِّن فِي النَّاسِ بِالْحَجِّ يَأْتُوكَ رِجَالًا وَعَلَى كُلِّ ضَامِرٍ يَأْتِينَ مِن كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَمِيقٍ Hence, proclaim thou unto all people the [duty of] pilgrimage: they will come unto thee on foot and on every [kind of] fast mount, coming from every deep valley. From the benefits of living in Saudi is that you can leave for Hajj very late, and we reached Makkah on the day of Tarwiyyah the 8th day of Dhul Hijjah. We made our way to Mina and since we didnt have any tent we had to sleep in the masjid. All the time in Mina you get stopped by people asking questions concerning hajj, I did this and that am I sinning? What shall I do now? And most of your time actually goes to explaining to people about hajj and it is at times like that you thank Allah that He taught you 6 languages so that you are able to benefit many different kinds of people. On the day of 'Arafah we sat out on foot it was very tiring and my knee started to hurt so we decided to jump on top of a bus half way. The amount of people there was mind-blowing, crowds and crowds of people. What I love most about the hajj is that how it reminds you of the Here after. You only wear two pieces of garment, similarly to what you will wear when you die. Also the huge amount of people all gathered on an open plain makes you think of how the day of Judgement will be like. We sat and listened to the Mufti giving the Khutbah in Masjid an-Namirah and then spent the rest of the day in dua. At Magrib we went to Muzdalifah and Allah was merciful upon us, the weather was nice not like in Jeddah where there had been floods and reports of deaths. On the day of 'Eid we returned to Mina and finished our rituals, we were very exhausted and sat down to rest on the road. A police officer came up to us and say 'Harrik ya Haajj' meaning move o haaji [you will hear this as much as you hear the talbiyyah at hajj] we said to him have mercy upon us we are tired, he replied we are all tired, we said we have blisters on our feet he said by Allah I am up since 5 am and I have not sat down even once. Then we realised he was just as miskeen as us. The following days were spent in reciting Qur'aan and various acts of worship. When we reached Makkah to do our finally tawaf the masjid was so crowded the tawaf took 2 hours. Obviously the questions did not stop pouring in, people grab you left right and center. A sudani man came up to me and said do I have to walk between Safa and Marwa after this? I said no, and asked him what type of Hajj are you doing? He looked at me a bit lost, and replied I am doing hajj. I said yes I know that but what type of Hajj, Tamatu', Ifraad or Qiraan? He looked at me with even bigger eyes and said there are different types of Hajj? That is when I felt sorry for him, a person spending a large amount of is wealth and time and not knowing what he is doing. May Allah guide the Muslims. My last piece of advice to fellow brothers and sisters is, do not delay hajj. Do not wait until you are old, I can't stress this enough. Hajj needs physical strength make the most of your youth and the strength Allah has given you, save up from today and make intention to make hajj next year. May Allah accept all of our good deeds.

Reading Surah Faatiha twice?

Question: What is the ruling for the person who repeats the recitation of Surah Faatiha? Meaning when he finishes it once, he recites it once again? Answer: It is not allowed to knowingly repeat Surah Faatiha, since this has not be reported from the Prophet.  And he said;

Whoever introduces anything new into our affair (i.e. Islaam) that which is not from it, then it will be rejected. [Bukhaaree]

However the Salaah is still correct, and such a person should be given sincere advice (to stop it) so that he does not repeat this practise. [Fataawa al-Lajnah ad-Daa-imah 276/8]
