1. a) In this book the Shaikh mentions 10 things that nullify a persons islaam, we mentioned two reasons during our class why he only restricted himself to these 10, what are these two reasons?

b) We mentioned four conditions that scholars say have to be met in order for a muslim to be declared a kaafir after  he has fallen into clear kufr, one of these were that the person has to be baaligh (age of puberty) and ‘Aaqil (sane) what were the three other conditions? 

2. a) Who has the right to declare are muslim a kaafir in Islaam?

b) If a person says ”I don’t know whether the non muslims will end up in hell or not” what is the ruling concerning such a person? Answer with evidence.

3. a) Why is Magic haraam in Islaam? Answer with evidence

b) In the class you learned about when the scholars say, ”Whoever does such and such an act is a kaafir” is it then allowed for me to take that statment and go to my cousin (as an example) who might be doing that particular act and call him a kaafir? Why/Why not?

4. a) Are you allowed to have a non muslim friend? Does this not fall  underneath loving the non muslims?

b) Give an example of knowledge that is obligatory upon all muslims to know individually, and then give an example of knowledge that is only obligatory upon the muslim community as a whole to know.

5 a) Why did the two Angels teach mankind magic if it is such an evil thing? Answer with evidence

b) Some people say Khidr who met Prophet Moosa is alive until this day, is that true? Answer with evidence

This is a very beautiful Qaseedah in the arabic language by al-Imaam Haafidh al-Hakami. InshaaAllaah it will serve as a reminder for us so that we may improve our Salah. If Allaah bestows upon us the tawfeeq and ability then inshaaAllaah we shall try our best to upload a translated version in the english language, until then I hope we can try and pick up a few words here and there.

1. Aboo Hurayrah: ”It is more beloved for me to sit a little while, learning my religion, than for me to pray the entire night up until dawn” [Jaami'ul Bayaan al-'ilm wa fadhlihi volume 1. page 60]

2. al-Hasan al-Basree: ”The scholar is better than the one who is Zaahid (very religious) and worships a lot” [Jaami'ul Bayaan al-'ilm wa fadhlihi volume 1. page 61]

3.‘Umar bin al-Khattaab: ”That one thousand worshippers who fast during the day and pray during the night, all die, is easier to bare than the death of one single scholar who understands the halaal from the haraam.” [Jaami'ul Bayaan al-'ilm wa fadhlihi volume 1. page 65]

4. Sufyaan ath-Thawree: ”There is no deed better than seeking knowledge – if the intentions are pure” [Jaami'ul Bayaan al-'ilm wa fadhlihi volume 1. page 63]

19. Aboo Dardaa’: ”Why do I see you hungry for food but fed up with knowledge?” [Jaami'ul Bayaan al-'ilm wa fadhlihi volume 1 page 305]

24. Ibn ‘AbdilBar: ”None of the people of innovation interpreted the Qur’aan based upon the Sunnah, this is why they went astray and led others astray too” [Jaami'ul Bayaan al-'ilm wa fadhlihi volume 2 page 369]

25. al-Hasan al-Basree: ”Few actions according to the Sunnah will always be better than many actions based upon innovation” [Jaami'ul Bayaan al-'ilm wa fadhlihi volume 2 page 372]

This illness is none other than love before marriage, and it is with great sadness that a lot of youth fail to realize that in reality there is no such thing as “true” love before marriage, yes, there might be crushes, infatuations and the likes, but true love? No.

Some people might argue and say, how can you make such a bold statement? To that I reply, love is what creates happiness not sorrow, love is what gives you a peace of mind not worry and anguish but most importantly, love is that which brings you closer to Allaah the Most High, not that which will push you further away from Him and acquire His wrath.

Yet there are a few brothers and sisters, who truly love Allaah, only to find their hearts crippled by this disease, they have apparently fallen in “love” with the opposite gender (before  marriage) and can’t seem to stop thinking about them, they lose their appetite, their sleep and become neglectful of life as a whole.

These individuals sometimes regret falling in love and want a way out, they want a cure for this illness, but is there really a cure?

Listen to what Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim has to say:

“And the cure for this deadly illness (i.e. love before marriage) is for the person that is afflicted to realize that this love is only due to his/her own delusions and ignorance.

So upon such a person is to first and foremost strengthen their Tawheed and reliance upon Allaah, and secondly to increase in worship and busy themselves with it, so much so that they do not have any spare time letting their minds wander and think about their beloved.

And they should call upon Allaah to protect them and save them from this evil, just as Prophet Yusuf called upon Allaah and he was saved. And they should do as he did, be as he was, in terms of ikhlaas (sincerity) and remembering Allaah in abundance.

This is because if the heart is filled with ikhlaas for the sake of Allaah, there will be no space left for any unlawful love to be present, rather this only happens to a heart that is empty and has no ikhlaas whatsoever.

And let such people remind themselves that whatever Allaah has decreed for them is only in their own best interests, and when Allaah commands something it is never to cause harm or misery to His slaves.

And let them also remind themselves that their unlawful love does not benefit them, neither in this world or the hereafter! As for this world then they will be so preoccupied with their love that it will cripple them and will cause them to live in a fantasy world. And as for the hereafter then it will cause them to be preoccupied with the love of the creation instead of love for the Creator!

These people need to be reminded, that the one who is emerged in something will never see its ill effects, neither will the person who has never experienced such things. The only people who will be able to relate to them are those who have experienced the same thing but have been saved. Such people can look back and realize how evil it is.”

[ad-Daa' wa ad-Dawaa p. 300]

The Messenger of Allaah said:

There is no Muslim that passes away during the day or night of a Friday except that Allaah saves him from the fitnah of the grave.

Now there has been quite a lot of talk about this hadeeth, some scholars declare it saheeh others question the authenticity of it, so I decided to translate for you the conclusion of our noble Shaikh, al-Albaanee.

He said in his book Ahkaam al-Janaa-iz

This Hadeeth has been reported both by Imaam Ahmad and al-Fasawee in his al-Ma’rifah, narrated through two paths by ‘Abdillaah bin ‘Amr and it has backing up evidence from hadeeths narrated by Jaabir bin ‘Abdillaah and Anas bin Maalik including others.

So keeping in mind all these other variations of this hadeeth it concludes this hadeeth as either hasan or saheeh. (even though the hadeeth itself might be weak)

Shaikh al-Mubaarakfoori goes into depth regards this in his book Tuhfat al-Ahwadi which is an explanation of Sunan at-Tirmidhee. In it, he expands on the position of Shaikh al-Albaanee and brings a lot of evidence for this opinion.

And as for the meaning of the hadeeth:

 ”except that Allaah saves him from the fitnah of the grave”

The Shaikh says:

This could mean both being saved from the punishment of the grave as well as the questioning of the grave

[Tuhafat al-Ahwadi v. 4 p. 186]

Allaah the Most High cut of all means for the Mushrikeen to attach themselves to their false deities, in such an incredible way, only people with understanding will realize how amazing it is.

Because the sole reason why a Mushrik takes a false god besides Allaah and makes it their object of worship is due to their presumption that this being (idol, dead person, trees etc) can bring  them some sort of benefit.

And benefit is only gain through four types of means, these being;

FIRST: The object of worship is an Owner, and by worshipping the object it will grant you what you desire.

SECOND: The object of worship is not an Owner but rather is a partner and can still fulfill your wishes.

THIRD: The object of worship is neither an Owner nor a partner but is a helper to the Owner and can still answer your supplications.

FOURTH: The object of worship is neither an Owner nor a partner, not even a helper but only an intercessor and can thus bring you benefit in such a way.

And Allaah the Most High, refuted each of these four claims throughout the Qur’aan, one after the other, He is the only true Owner (al-Maalik) and has no partners whatsoever, nor does He have any helpers and no one can intercede on anyone’s behalf accept by His permission.

“It is so that you make more sujud on different places on the earth” some of you might reply, yes that’s all fine and good but do you not have some clear evidence to justify why you insist on changing the place of prayer? If a person asked you what evidence do you have to support your action? What do you respond?

Well the answer is quite simple (and yes it is actually from the Sunnah!) lets read Saheeh Muslim and check shall we?

Mu’aawiyyah bin Abee Sufyaan said:

The Messenger of Allaah commanded us not to pray a Salah straight after another Salah unless we would [separate it with] talk or leave [our place].

And Imaam an-Nawawee explains this saying:

In this hadeeth there is evidence for what the scholars say that it is preferred to pray the optional prayers in another place than where one prayed their obligatory prayer. And the best place for that is the house, but any other place inside the masjid will be valid.

The great scholar Imaam ash-Shaatibee explains this beautifully in his book al-’Itisaam:

And if a person gives respect to an innovator then this creates two major problems that will in reality aid in the destruction of Islaam.

FIRST: If you respect people of innovation then the general masses will be deceived by this and will presume (due to the importance you are giving this innovator) that he is the best of all mankind, and that which he is upon (i.e. his innovation) is good and thus people will follow his innovation and leave off the Sunnah.

SECOND: If you respect the people of innovation then this will serve as a motivation for them and encouragement and this in turn will cause them to increase in more innovations and thus innovations will come to life and the Sunnah will die, since these two things cannot coexist.
