'Til the last breath.

Aboo Ja’far at-Tastaree said:

I went to Aboo Zur’ah (ar-Raazee) whilst he was on his death bed and with him was Aboo Haatim and Muhammad bin Muslim and al-Mundhir bin Shaathaan along with a group of scholars. And they mentioned the hadith of Talqeen (making the dying person utter the Shahaadah) and the Prophets statement:

“Make your dead (dying) pronounce laa ilaaha illaAllaah”

But they became shy around Aboo Zur’ah and felt embarssed to remind him.

So they said to eachother, come and lets mention the hadith (perhaps Aboo Zur’ah will realise) so Muhammad bin Muslim started of, he said:

It was narrated by ad-Dhahaak bin Makhlad on the authority of ‘Abdi al-Hameed bin Ja’far on the authority of Saalih…

And he stopped narrating and couldnt continue (as if he forgot the chain)

Aboo Haatim took over and said:

It was narrated by Bundaar that he said it was narrated by Aboo ‘Aasim on the authority of ‘Abdi al-Hameed bin Ja’far on the authority of Saalih…

But even he stopped there.

And the rest of the scholars were all silent

Then Aboo Zur’ah said whilst on his death bed.

It was narrated to us by Bundaar that he said it was narrated to us by Aboo ‘Aasim that he said it was narrated to us by ‘Abdi al-Hameed on the authority of Saalih bin Abee ‘Areeb on the authority of Katheer bin Murrah al-Hadhramee on the authority of Mu’aadh bin Jabal that he said the Messenger of Allaah said:

“Whoever makes his last utterance  laa ilaaha illaAllaah enters Jannah”

And then he (Aboo Zur’ah) passed away.

Hardship

Throughout our lives we are faced with hardships some big and others small. It might be the loss of a loved one or financial difficulties or genuine grief and sorrow. It is human nature to ask the simple question, Why? Why are we tested? Why is it only me that is going through this difficulty whilst the people around me seem to be smiling and happy. As Muslims we realise the reason behind hardships in life and that Allah never means to destroy us thereby rather it is a test to see who amongst us are thankful and who amongst us are ungrateful. Our noble Prophet said:

The most in their suffering among the people are the prophets, then the best, then the (next) best. One is afflicted in accordance with his faith. If his faith is firm, his affliction is hard, and if his faith is weak, his affliction is light. Indeed, one would be so much subjected to adversity until he walks among the people without any sins

[Reported by Imaam Ahmad in his Musnad and Imaam Tirmidhee in his Sunan]

And in his Sharh [explanation] Shaykh Aboo Qutaybah Nathar Muhammad al-Faaryaabee brings to light a very subtle point whilst commenting on the Hadith of Ibn 'Abbas in the forty hadiths compiled by Imaam Nawawi rahimahulAllah:

And his [i.e the Prophets] statement:

...Verily with difficulty there is [much] ease...

And in another hadith the Prophet said:

Difficulty will never surpass ease

This is because [in the hadith] difficulty has been mentioned twice and ease has been mentioned twice but [what is well known] amongst arabs is that if a word is in a definite form [i.e it has al before it] then it will always be just one even if repeated [i.e since the word difficulty 'usr is mentioned as al-'usr in its definite form then it is only refering to one difficulty] But if the word is undefined [known in arabic as nakirah] and it is repeated it shows a multitude [and in the hadith the word yusr, arabic for ease is undefined so it shows that alot of ease comes after just one hardship. This is the same for the Qur'aan where this is mentioned in surah alam nashrah]

Reading Surah Faatiha twice?

Question: What is the ruling for the person who repeats the recitation of Surah Faatiha? Meaning when he finishes it once, he recites it once again? Answer: It is not allowed to knowingly repeat Surah Faatiha, since this has not be reported from the Prophet.  And he said;

Whoever introduces anything new into our affair (i.e. Islaam) that which is not from it, then it will be rejected. [Bukhaaree]

However the Salaah is still correct, and such a person should be given sincere advice (to stop it) so that he does not repeat this practise. [Fataawa al-Lajnah ad-Daa-imah 276/8]
