There is a misconception amongst many Muslims today, and it is to do with the phrase “MaashaaAllaah TabaarakAllaah” and the phrase “MaashaaAllaah la hawla wala quwata illa billaah”. Now most people think that by saying these du’aas it will repel the ‘ayn (evil eye) but what they fail to understand is that this phrasing is not the correct form of the du’aa instructed by our beloved Prophet.
It has become a widespread bid’a that when someone sees something they like in themselves or in someone else they say “MaashaaAllaah TabaarakAllaah” or “MaashaaAllaah la hawla wala quwata illa billaah” in order to repel the evil eye.
But this is all baseless, rather what the Muslim should say instead is “Allaahumma Baarik Lahu” since this is what the hadiths teach us.
And as for those who use the verse in soorah al-Kahf
وَلَولا إِذ دَخَلتَ جَنَّتَكَ قُلتَ ما شاءَ اللَّهُ لا قُوَّةَ إِلّا بِاللَّهِ
as evidence for their statement then they have misunderstood the verse entirely. Since this verse is about a debate that took place between two men, a Muslim and a kaafir. And it is not to show a particular dhikr for people to use (against the evil eye) and the evidence for that is the fact that neither the Prophet nor the Companions used this expression to ward off the evil eye.
And do not confuse the other hadiths which mention the rewards of saying la hawla wala quwata illaa billaah, since that is talking about a whole different topic, and it does not deal with the evil eye.
However you will still find scholars who will tell you it is allowed even though it lacks evidence.
Shaikh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah writes in his book “Ma’aarij al-Wusool“
And it is through the ijtihaad of many from the salaf as well as the khalaf (later generations) that a lot of bid’a has become widespread today, not knowing that it in reality it was a bid’a. Either due to them relying upon hadith they thought to be authentic (which wasn’t the case) or verses from the Qur’aan they misinterpreted etc. But for every mujtahid with sincere pursuit of the truth will always get one reward even if he is mistaken.
[Raf'u al-Ghayn by Shaikh Maahir al-Qahtaani p.75]
So dear brothers and sisters, next time, instead of saying MaashaaAllaah TabaarakAllaah or MaashaaAllaah la hawla wala quwata illa billaah, say instead Allaahumma Baarik Lahu, this is closer to the Sunnah and Allaah knows best.

The Shaikh of Aboo Daawood and an-Nisaaee once debated an innovator who said the Qur’aan is created (i.e. the speech of Allaah is created) this is what took place.
The Shaikh: Did the Prophet and his successors know of this bid’a?
The innovator: No they did not know of this.
The Shaikh: So if they did not know of this, how is it possible that you came to know of it?
The innovator: (retracts his statement) No, they knew about it.
The Shaikh: If they indeed did know of it, do you truly think they would not have mentioned it (in a hadeeth etc) or call mankind towards this (knowledge) or was that not a possibilty?
The innovator: No they kept quite about it and did not mention it.
The Shaikh: So you are saying that something the Messenger of Allaah and his companions kept silent about and did not mention, you mention instead?!
And thus the innovator was dumb struck and the Khaleefah at that time was so impressed that he supported the Sunnah and ordered those who spoke about matters our Prophet did not speak about (i.e. spreading lies about him) to be taken far away from his presence.

It is often very easy for practising muslims to judge and look down upon non practising muslims, forgetting quickly that it was only through the grace and mercy of Allaah that they themselves were guided.
You, too, were once in the same condition - but God has been gracious unto you. [Surah Nisaa]
Narrated by Aboo Hurayrah that he said, I heared the Messenger of Allaah say:
There used to be two brothers from the Children of Israel, one of them used to sin whilst the other was a strong worshipper.
The worshipping brother never used to see the sinning brother except in the state of sin (always committing a sin). And he used to say to him “Decrease!” (in terms of how much sin he used to commit).
Then one day he found him committing yet another sin whereupon he proclaimed “Decrease!” So his brother said to him, leave me alone with my Lord (i.e only He can judge me), were you sent as a guardian over me?! So the worshipping brother said “By Allaah! Allaah will never forgive you! And you will never enter paradise!”
So their souls were taken (i.e they passed away) and were gathered infront of the Lord of the worlds. And (Allaah) said to the worshipper “Did you have any knowledge of Me? Or did you possess the powers that I possesss?”
Then (Allaah) said to the sinner “Go and enter Paradise by My Mercy” And (Allaah) said to the other one “Take him away to the Hell fire!” [Sunan Abee Daawood 4901]

A sister sent me this and I thought I'd share it with you guys.
Question: What is the ruling for the person who repeats the recitation of Surah Faatiha? Meaning when he finishes it once, he recites it once again?
Answer: It is not allowed to knowingly repeat Surah Faatiha, since this has not be reported from the Prophet. And he said;
Whoever introduces anything new into our affair (i.e. Islaam) that which is not from it, then it will be rejected. [Bukhaaree]
However the Salaah is still correct, and such a person should be given sincere advice (to stop it) so that he does not repeat this practise.
